8:00 Guest poet: Sipho Brannen
Sipho Brannen is a poet/ photographer from Savannah, Ga. He first started speaking at open mic poetry events in 2011 in Hampton, Va. He has since launched 2 open mic venues in LA as well as Hampton Va. Sipho’s passion for poetry begin at a very age. As a boy he would read Langston Hughes, Pablo Neruda, Walt Whitman to name a few. It wasn’t until in his teens when he found his own words and started writing poems. Since the start of his open mic career he and his team Poetic Expressions(POEX) has put on showcases at numerous churches, univesities and business across the U.S.. With a mission to spread the word that poetry is still very alive and vibrant art. Also to give other future poets a place to create and share there words.

Stephanie Yu is a poet and photographer based in Los Angeles. She writes about her experience as a first generation Chinese American. She seeks to empower other writers of color with her words. Her current project is a book of poems about place, shame, and belonging. She is an MFA graduate from Pacific Northwesst College of Art in Portland, Oregon.
